RALEIGH, N.C.– Junior Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) of the Shaw University women's basketball team recorded her 11th double double of the season with 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears to a 67-40 win at rival Saint Augustine's University Saturday afternoon in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest in Emery Gymnasium.
The win snapped a two-game skid for the Lady Bears (7-19, 2-14) and provides Shaw's its second road win of the season. For SAU (3-19, 2-13 CIAA), the Lady Falcons have now dropped its fifth-straight. The victory is also Shaw's first division win of the year (1-9) while SAU's falls to 2-8 within the South.
Behind Keen who also tallied three blocks in the contest was senior KlinTish Martin (Atlanta, GA) who added 15 points and seven rebounds while senior Raquel Kellow (Conroe, TX) chipped in a season-high 10 points and three boards.
The Lady Bears shot over 40-percent from the field, including 6-of-15 from the 3-point line while connecting 21-of-37 from the charity stripe, additionally outscoring the Lady Falcons 37-17 in the second half which proved to be the difference maker as SAU accounted for 25-percent in field goals, 4-of-13 from long distance and 46-percent from the free throw line.
After trailing by five in the opening four minutes, the Lady Bears put together a 22-9 scoring frame to take a 20-12 lead after one quarter of play. Although Shaw never trailed in the second quarter, the Lady Falcons pulled within three points after a layup from Tanisha Wall at the 6:37 mark but the Lady Bears stayed poised and was able to finesse a 30-23 lead at halftime capped off by a bucket from Keen.
Both teams struggled in the third quarter as Shaw and Saint Augustine's combined for just four points after over six minutes of action. The Lady Bears then managed to outscore the Lady Falcons 12-9 in the stanza led by seven points from sophomore Keyonte Cherry (Rocky Mount, NC).
With a 42-32 lead to begin the fourth quarter, Shaw never looked back as they ran up the score on the Lady Falcons 28-8 for the win.
SAU had two players score in double figures led by Kiana Clark with 13 points and five rebounds while Tanisha Wall added 10 points and five rebounds.
Shaw will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Fayetteville State University for a CIAA division contest at 6 p.m.
