SHAW HOSTS WINSTON-SALEM STATE FOR BASKETBALL DOUBLEHEADER

RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's basketball will host Winston-Salem State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) Southern Division doubleheader Wednesday, Feb. 13 inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

 

The women's game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with the Lady Bears (6-18, 1-13 CIAA) taking on the Rams (14-10, 10-4 CIAA) who post a 7-1 mark in the South standings tied for first place with Fayetteville State. Shaw suffered a 100-58 setback at Livingstone in its last outing led by junior Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) who tallied 24 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of action due to early foul trouble.

 

WSSU women enters Wednesday's contest on a two-game win-streak after defeating Saint Augustine's, 72-54. Brionna Pate led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

 

This will be the second meeting between Shaw and Winston-Salem State this year. The Rams defeated the Lady Bears 82-65 on Jan. 23 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Pate had 21 points while freshman Amani Moxley (Moreno Valley, CA) registered a team-high 19 points for Shaw.

 

The men's game, which is slated to start at 8 p.m., features a Bears (11-12, 6-8 CIAA) team that has lost its last two games, including a 78-67 setback at Livingstone Saturday after junior Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) led the way with his season-low 17 points.

 

As for the Rams, WSSU (9-13, 4-10 CIAA) has lost its last five games coming into Wednesday's tilt. Robert Colon was the leading scorer for the Rams against SAU with 13 points.

 

Like the women, this will be the second meeting between the Rams and Bears as Shaw clinched a 73-69 win on the road behind Hinton's 31 points, and five assists while junior Derrick Randolph (Chicago, IL) tabbed 15 points and junior Davon Dillard (Gary, IN) chipped in 10 point and 12 rebounds.
