RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) recorded her 10th double-double of the season with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds but the Shaw University women's basketball team fell 82-44 to Fayetteville State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest Wednesday night in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Junior Lynah Bontiff (Dominica, West Indies) grabbed 12 rebounds and four points in the setback. The Lady Bears (5-16, 0-11 CIAA) shot a season-low, 25.7-percent (18-70) from the field compared to the Lady Broncos (12-7, 7-4 CIAA) who accounted for 38.6-percent (32-83) from the field led by Katisha Hyman who scored 21 points and six rebounds while Jasmine Covington added 15 points and two rebounds.
Shaw kept within reach of FSU after trailing 12-9 heading into the second quarter but the Lady Broncos outscored the Lady Bears 23-11 in the second stanza for a 35-20 lead at the break.
FSU opened up the second half with a 22-4 run that ultimately led to the Lady Broncos outscoring Shaw 32-7 in the third quarter – taking a 67-27 lead which put the game out of reach for Shaw down the stretch.
The contest featured two ties and two lead changes early on.
Shaw will return to action Saturday, Feb. 2 at Johnson C. Smith for a CIAA Southern Division contest at 2 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
