RALEIGH, N.C. – After a two-week break from competition, the Shaw University women's basketball team will resume action Thursday, Dec. 13 at Elizabeth City State University for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference cross division at 5:30 p.m. inside the Robert L. Vaughan Center.
Thursday's contest will be the 52nd meeting between the Lady Bears and Lady Vikings. Shaw leads the all-time series 34-17 overall, the Lady Bears were defeated by the Lady Vikings 72-68 in last year's meeting.
SU hopes to get back into the win column after falling to William Peace by the score of 80-79 in overtime in their last outing. Senior guards Tahniya Sweatt (Pasadena, CA) and KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) lead the team in scoring (20.3 ppg and 17.2 ppg) while junior center Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) is the team's leading rebounder with 11.2 per outing – first in the CIAA.
The ECSU women's basketball team enters Thursday game with a 5-4 overall record and 4-3 mark at home thus far. The Lady Vikings are coming off a 99-51 win against Regent on Dec. 8. Three players chart double figures in scoring led by Naterria Luster (18.0 ppg) while Asia Deal and Devona Stell post 11.8 and 11.3 ppg respectively.
Following Thursday's tilt, the Lady Bears will travel to Chowan University for another CIAA cross division contest with the Hawks at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.
