RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University women's basketball will host a tournament featuring Virginia State University, Clark Atlanta University and the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 in the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium for their home opener.
The Lady Bears will begin the tournament with a clash against Clark Atlanta on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by Virginia State taking on the Puerto Rico-Bayamon at 6 p.m.
Saturday, Shaw and Puerto Rico-Bayamon will square off at 2 p.m. to conclude the tournament. All three games for this weekend will broadcast live on the Shaw Bears Sports Network. Fans can also follow live statistics on www.shawbears.com or live tweets on Twitter @ShawBears.
Shaw enters the tournament 0-2 after falling to Pitt-Johnstown (80-65) and Shepherd (86-71) during the Conference Challenge held in Shepherdstown, WV. Senior guard Tahniya Sweatt (Pasadena, CA) who averages 22.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per outing leads the Lady Bears offensively.
CAU (0-2) is also looking for its first win of the season; the Lady Panthers are coming 73-29 loss to Eckerd on Nov. 11. CAU finished 20-9 overall and 15-3 in the SIAC last season. Reyana Miller and Reagan Jackson both lead the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game, respectively.
As for the Trojans of VSU, they enter Friday's game 2-1 on the young season. VSU is coming off an 88-71 win over Paine Monday led by Chrisanna Green who scored 19 points in the winning effort.
