RALEIGH, N.C. – On Friday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m., longtime rivals Shaw University and Saint Augustine's University women's basketball programs will go head-to-head for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (5-20, 2-11 CIAA) are looking to put an end to a seven-game losing skid, following an 81-73 loss at Winston-Salem State on Feb. 10. Shaw has struggled at home this season, only winning one game with a 1-7 on the season thus far. Senior forward LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) leads the Lady Bears in scoring with 18.0 points per game. Junior guard Tahniya Sweatt (Pasadena, CA) adds 13.6 ppg, sophomore center Lervencia Johnson (Many, LA) contributes 12.1 ppg and senior forward KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) chips in 11.1 points, respectively.
SAU enters Friday's game on a three-game losing skid, including an 82-65 loss to Johnson C. Smith on Feb. 10 at home. The Lady Falcons have not had much success on the road this season with a 1-8 record. The Lady Falcons have one player averaging double figures in scoring in Kaaliya Williams (14.9).
The last meeting between both programs took place on Jan. 24 in Emery Gymnasium where the Lady Falcons defeated Shaw 61-59. That game was the first time the Lady Bears had lost to SAU for the first time since 2010. Prior to that, Shaw had owned a 16-game win-streak over the Lady Falcons.
Friday's clash will be the final meeting between Shaw and Saint Augustine's before both teams compete in the CIAA Basketball Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. on Feb. 25-Mar.3.
