After suffering an 87-80 decision to Barton College on Tuesday, Jan. 2, the Lady Bears (3-10, 1-1 CIAA) will look to regroup and snap a four-game skid against a tough and talented No. 15 Virginia Union (11-1, 3-0 CIAA) team whom has won their last 11-games, including their most recent 88-58 victory over Catawba on Dec. 30.

The Lady Bears offense is led by senior LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) who averages 20.5 points and 6.8 rebounds - she leads the CIAA in scoring this season. Sophomore Lervencia Johnson-Tyler (Many, LA) adds 13.0 points and team-high 8.2 rebounds while senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) post 11.3 points and 6.0 boards, respectively.

No. 15 VUU's high powered offense is ignited by Rachael Pecota who puts up 17.7 points per game (4th in the CIAA), including 48-percent shooting from the 3-point line which ranks her fifth in the CIAA. Following Pecota is Alexis Johnson with 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds a night while Shareka McNeill contributes 13.1 points to round out the double figure scoring for VUU. The Lady Panthers are 4-0 at home this season.

Shaw has lost the last three meetings against VUU, including last season's meeting where the Lady Bears suffered a 91-67 setback in Spaulding on Jan. 5, 2017.

Riding a hot finish in 2017, the Bears (8-4, 2-0 CIAA) will look to maintain their winning morale at VUU Thursday night. Shaw rolls into Barco-Stevens Hall on a six-game win-streak after defeating Barton College, 110-89 on Dec. 30. The Bears have four players charting double digits in scoring led by senior DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) who registers 20.0 points (3rd in CIAA), 5.8 rebounds and a team-high 5.8 assists (2nd in CIAA) per contest.  Sophomore and Week 7 CIAA Player of the Week, DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) has come alive, as he now averages 18.0 points (5th in CIAA), including a hot 46-percent shooting from long distance which ranks him fourth in the league.

The Bears also get their points from senior and CIAA Newcomer of the Week, Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) who contributes (6th in CIAA) 17.5 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per outing – ranking him second amongst the conference. Lastly, in just four games played on the season thus far, senior Krishaun Myers (Pompano Beach, FL) averages 21.0 points.

The Panthers (7-7, 2-0 CIAA) are seeking their third conference win against the Bears after suffering a 62-56 loss to Shepherd in Barco-Stevens Hall on Dec. 19. VUU stands in first place in the North Division, the Panthers are anchored by Kory Cooley (13.5 points), James Paige (10.8 points) and Todd Hughes (10.2 points). Paige averages a team-best 6.0 rebounds while William Jenkins adds 5.8 boards.

Both teams met earlier this season with Shaw defeating a Virginia Union, 80-76 on Dec. 2 in Raleigh, N.C.

Thursday's doubleheader is the first of four doubleheaders to come down the stretch for Shaw.
