RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's basketball teams will continue Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference play Thursday, Dec. 14 as the Bears and Lady Bears welcome the Vikings and Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University for CIAA cross division action inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The first contest of the evening will feature the women's game with the Lady Bears and Lady Vikings beginning at 6 p.m. Both teams will meet for the 53rd time in program history. Last season, Shaw fell to ECSU by the score of 51-45 in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Shaw (2-6, 0-1 CIAA) is coming of an 82-70 loss to No. 8 Chowan Tuesday at home. Senior forward LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) scored a game-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds, three steals and two assists while junior guard Raquel Kellow (Conroe, TX) added 12 points and dished out five assists, following senior forward KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) who chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Vikings (6-4, 0-0 CIAA) travel to Raleigh with winning momentum after earning a 75-51 victory over Bluefield State Tuesday night led by Jayln Brown who recorded a game-high 23-points. Three other players scored in double figures for ECSU in the win.

Thursday's tip-off will also mark the first time head women's basketball coaches Jacques Curtis of Shaw and Antonio Davis of Elizabeth City State go head-to-head in eight years. Prior to ECSU, Davis spent the last four season as an assistant coach under Curtis.

The evening's nightcap will include the men's game with the Bears and Vikings at approximately 8 p.m. It will be the 72nd time both teams meet on the court as Shaw defeated ECSU, 73-67 during last season's campaign on the road.

The Bears (5-4, 1-0 CIAA) will look to extend their win-streak to four-games against the Vikings (3-2, 0-0 CIAA). Shaw flushed the Hawks of Chowan 87-80 for their first CIAA win on the season in their last outing. Senior Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) recorded his second double-double of the season with 33 points and 13 rebounds while senior DeAngleo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) produced 20 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals. Senior Krishaun Myers (Pompano Beach, FL) scored 14 points off the bench in his season debut.

ECSU have not played since Nov. 14. In their last outing, the Vikings secured an 86-82 decision over Barton at home. John Maynor is the team's best offensive weapon, averaging 15.6 points and 4.2 rebounds a night. Corey Mendez adds 11.6 points and 3.6 boards per game.

Following Thursday's clash, the Shaw Bears will travel to Washington Adventist on Sunday, Dec. 17 for a non-conference tilt with the Shock at 1 p.m. while the Lady Bears hit the road for a pair of games at the Lynn University Holiday Classic Dec. 17-18 and single-game action at Nova Southeastern on Dec. 19 at 4 p.m.
