WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior forward LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) scored 28 points but the Shaw University women's basketball team dropped an 85-61 decision to Shepherd University to conclude the Winston-Salem State Conference Challenge Sunday afternoon.
Senior guard Chelsea Long (Melbourne, FL) added 10 points to go along with eight rebounds while Taylor also finished with eight boards defensively.
Shaw (0-2) trailed by three (37-34) at the break but in the third quarter, things went downhill for the Lady Bears as they accounted for just 15 points compared to the Rams 32 baskets.
For the contest, the Lady Bears shot 42-percent from the floor (27-64), 17-percent from the three-point line (3-18) and nailed only 4-of-11 from the foul line for 36-percent. Shepherd (2-0) scored 21 points off of Shaw's 22 turnovers.
The Lady Bears will look to regroup when they travel to Clark Atlanta University for a nonconference tilt on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
