BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Shaw University women's basketball team looked superb on the first day of the Courtyard Boca Raton Holiday Classic on Saturday afternoon, handling Lynn University 76-61 in great fashion. Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) charged with 23 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Bears.
With the win, Shaw improves to 8-3 overall, while Lynn falls to 2-8 on the season.
The Lady Bears caught fire to open the game after building a 10-0 run over the Knights. Shaw outscored Lynn 21-7 to close out the quarter. Lynn would try to get things going in the second quarter after back-to-back jumpers would ignite the Knights to outscore the Lady Bears but Shaw would go into the half with a 34-23 lead.
Shaw would score 24 points compared to the Knights 20 in the third quarter as the Lady Bears went into the fourth quarter with a 58-43 lead.
The Knights scored the first four points in the fourth quarter but Shaw continued to feed the post as Wright scored an easy bucket to extend the lead 60-49 with 6:44 left to play. From there, it was all the Lady Bears as Shaw claimed the 15-point win.
For the game, Shaw posted a 52-36 advantage in the rebounding column and shot 45 percent from the field. The Lady Bears also connected 15-of-19 free throws and outscored the home team's bench 39-24.
Shaw will conclude the Classic on Sunday, Dec. 20th when they face Saint Leo's University with a tip scheduled for 12 p.m.
