RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's basketball team is set to host Francis Marion University on Saturday, Dec. 5th at CC Spaulding Gymnasium with a tip scheduled for 2 p.m. for the Vivian Merrick Sansom game.
In addition to competition, Saturday's contest will honor the late Vivian Merrick Sansom who built the women's athletic program, teaching tennis, golf, dance and archery at Shaw University.
Francis Marion, a member of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), is currently 6-0 on the season entering Saturday's matchup. They are led by first year head coach Jeri Porter. Offensively, the Patriots are led by Alaysia Watts, who averages 13.3 points per game. Defensively, Briana Burgins contributes 8.3 rebounds per outing.
As a team, the Patriots average 67.3 points and 35.5 rebounds per contest.
The Lady Bears (5-1) return to the helm after a 105-93 double-overtime thriller at USC Aiken. Shaw had six players finish in double-digit scoring including Tabatha Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) who finished with a game-high 22 points. Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) tallied 19 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Lady Bears defensively.
Shaw averages 82.4 points per game, 46.6 rebounds per outing, while dishing out 15.9 assist a contest.
The last time these two teams met was on Nov. 29, 2014, a game that saw the Lady Bears down Francis Marion 90-65. Anderson tallied 11 points, seven assists and seven steals for Shaw.
