FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Shaw University women's basketball team scored 24 points off of turnovers in route to a 62-47 victory over the Mountain Lions of Concord University to conclude the CIAA-MEC Challenge hosted by Fayetteville State University on Saturday afternoon.
Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) recorded a game-high 22 points, to go along with four rebounds and three assists offensively for the Lady Bears (1-1). Laquisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) added 11 points, while Eboni Ross (Greensboro, NC) tallied 13 rebounds.
The Lady Bears defense forced 20 turnovers and limited Concord (0-2) to 18.8 percent from the floor in the second half.
SU jumped out to an early 5-2 lead to start the first quarter but CU would take the lead at the 6:27 mark and roll to a 6-0 lead to post a 20-13 at the end of the quarter. The Lady Bears went on a series of runs with the Mountains Lions and managed to pull within one point as SU trailed by 29-28 at the half.
A jump shot from Jacks sparked a 5-2 run for the Lady Bears in the third quarter in which that same momentum would carry over in the fourth as the Lady Bears orchestrated a 10-point lead before earning the 15-point victory.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when they travel to Augusta, Ga., to face Paine College. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
