[Boca Raton, FL] - After trailing 36-29 at the half, the Shaw women's basketball team started the second with a 12-2 run and never let Lynn recapture the lead as the Lady Bears stormed to a 75-70 win.
Everything for the Lady Bears picked up in the second half, from their defense to their shooting percentage to rebounding. After hitting only one-third of their shots in the first half, Shaw hit 45.7 percent in the second. They got 24 of their 40 rebounds in the second and started the half holding the Knights to only two points in the opening minutes.
The game was won at the foul line for Shaw, with the Lady Bears hitting 19 for 26 of their shots while Lynn could manage to hit only nine of their 21.
In the opening half, the Lady Bears got off to a slow start, but grabbed a lead with just under five minutes gone when Sequoyah Griffin hit a jumper to give the Lady Bears a 10-9 lead.
The two teams battled evenly for much of the half. With 4:59 left, Williams hit a jumper in the lane to give the Lady Bears a 25-23 lead. Over the next two minutes, the Knights scored ten unanswered points, giving them a 33-25 lead. Lynn would go into the locker room at the half with a 36-29 lead.
In the opening three and a half minutes of the second half, the Lady Bears forced four Lynn turnovers, and outscored their hosts 12-2 and took a three-point lead on Victoria Tanner's jumper in the lane which made the score 41-38.
With 8:12 left in the game, Marquis Lee hit a three to give Lynn a 55-52 lead. Over the next three and a half minutes, Williams and Buford scored ten points in a 12-1 run that gave the Lady Bears a 64-56 lead with 4:36 left in the game.
Lynn cut the lead to three four times in the closing minutes, but could never get it closer as the Lady Bears claimed a 75-70 win.
In addition to Williams and Buford's 22 and 21 points, respectively, both Isayra Diaz and Griffin had eight points apiece. Williams led both teams in rebounds with 12 and Alyssa Lane had four assists to lead Shaw.
Lee had 20 points to lead Lynn while Tylar Tracy had 12 and Kira Harvey had ten. Nelson-James had 11 rebounds to lead the Knights and Harvey paced both teams with eight assists.
The Lady Bears continue a four-game Florida swing with an appearance in the Palm Beach Atlantic Pre-Christmas Tournament. The Lady Bears take on host Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday at 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, they face Arkansas-Fort Smith, also at 5:00 p.m.
