YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. The Shaw University softball team continued play at the Young Harris Tournament Sunday afternoon with a pair of games against Georgia College, but the Lady Beas fell twice to the Bobcats, 8-0 and 11-1 at the E.D. Rivers Field.

Shaw falls to 3-14 overall while Georgia College improves to 5-12 on the year.

The Lady Bears tallied four hits in the opening contest as four different Shaw players posted a punch but SU could not capitalize on any of their hits. GC scored three runs in the second inning and five in the fourth, capped off by a homer Haley Howell.

Shaw had two opportunities to pull within, but the Bobcats defense was able to hold a Lady Bears comeback in the fifth for the five-inning rule and the 8-0 win.

During game two, the Lady Bears trailed 3-0 after the first inning but a single from sophomore McKenzie LaCount (Red Hill, GA) led to an unearned run for teammate and junior Marisa Richardson. Unfortunately, the Bobcats extended its lead to six after plating four runs in the bottom second inning to stand 7-1.

Shaw went three and out in the third inning while GC recorded four runs on two hits and an error before limiting a Lady Bears comeback, holding Shaw scoreless in the four and fifth innings for the five-inning rule.

LaCount absorbed the losses for Shaw in the circle, combining for one strike out on the day, allowing 19 hits and 19 runs in nine innings pitch as the Lady Bears lone pitcher.

Shaw will return to action and begin conference play with a trip to Elizabeth City, N.C. for the CIAA Round Up on Mar. 13-15. The Lady Bears will face teams from the Northern Division that include ECSU, Virginia State, Virginia Union, Bowie State and Lincoln (Pa). Game times will be forth coming.
