RALEIGH, N.C. Having the past four games cancelled or postponed due to weather, the Shaw University softball team will look to try it again this time at the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a non-conference doubleheader slated to begin at 2 p.m. from the Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.


The Lady Bears are 2-6 overall, coming off two losses at N.C. Wesleyan, 5-0 and 12-4 on Feb. 18. Through eight games, Shaw has tallied 27 total runs, averaging .259 at the plate as a unit.


Junior Marisa Richardson (Jacksonville, FL) posts .455 at the plate with 10 hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior Alexandra Masnica (Chicago, IL) has a team-high 11 RBI to go along with a batting clip of .391, nine hits and five runs scored. The Lady Bears lone pitcher is sophomore McKenzie LaCount (Red Hill, GA) with an ERA of 6.58 and 11 strikeouts in 44 innings of work.


UMO is 12-2 overall, having won its last 12 games including a 7-5 win over Bloomsburg and 3-2 edge against Coker on Feb. 23. Through 14 games, the Trojans average .310 at the plate, 78 runs scored and 12 homers on the season.


Eileen Barrera is the team's offensive leader with a batting average of .475, 19 hits, 15 RBI to go along with nine runs scored. Mallory Ratcliff and Haley Brogden have split the pitching duties thus far with Ratcliff having a 2.47 ERA but Brogden leading the unit in number of strikeouts (33).
