RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University softball will travel to Aiken, S.C. for a nonconference doubleheader with the Univeristy of South Carolina Aiken on Thursday, Feb. 13. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. from the J.H. Satcher Field.
Thursday's doubleheader will be the first meeting between Shaw and USC Aiken since 2014. The Pacers hold a 5-0 all-time record against the Lady Bears.
Shaw enters the doubleheader 0-2, coming off a two setbacks to Barton (Feb. 9) in Wilson, NC. Through the two games, senior Marsia Richardson (Jacksonville, FL) has a team-high batting average of .571 with four hits and an RBI while senior Alexandra Masnica (Chicago, IL) posts a batting clip of .500 with a team-high three RBI.
The Lady Bears lone pitcher is freshman McKenzie LaCount (Redhill, GA) who is 0-2 in the circle with a 6.30 ERA and five strike outs in 10 innings played.
The Pacers, a member of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) are 6-0 on its 2020 campaign, coming off 8-0 and 10-2 victories over Saint Augustine's on Feb. 9. USC Aiken is led on offense by Katie Painters and Brooke Moore with batting clips of .600 and .556, respectively. Painter has four RBI and nine hits while Moore has recorded 10 hits, eight runs and two home runs.
In the circle, Caroline Cockrell is 4-0 this season with 0.29 ERA in 24 innings pitched to go along with 40 strikeouts. The Pacers are coming off a 21-29 season in 2019 and 3-17 mark in the PBC.
