MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Shaw University softball suffered a 8-0 and 10-0 setback to the University of Mount Olive Monday afternoon at the Nancy Chapman Cassell Field in a nonconference twinbill.
The Lady Bears fall to 3-15 overall while UMO improves to 29-17.
In game one, the Trojans registered one run in the first, second and fourth inning before plating five runs in the bottom fifth after Madison Morgan homered to left field for two RBI. Alexis Oliver then singled for an RBI while Amari Borrego singled to left field as two other Trojans scored for the five-run rule over the Lady Bears.
Shaw did not earn a hit during game one as nine batters struck out. Freshman Joan Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) took the loss in the circle, allowing 14 hits, two walks and no strikeouts.
The Lady Bears offensive woes continued in game two after trailing 6-0 to the Trojans after two complete innings. UMO then tallied four more runs in the bottom fourth as Shaw failed to match or record a single hit.
Wendt would take her second loss on the day in the circle to fall to 3-15 on the year, allowing 13 hits, including five earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.
The Lady Bears will look return to action Tuesday (Apr. 16) at Saint Augustine's University. First pitch is slated for 12 noon at Lions Park (516 Dennis Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27610).
