RALEIGH WEATHER FORCES SOFTBALL TO TRAVEL TO MOUNT OLIVE FOR DOUBLEHEADER MONDAY

 

RALEIGH, N.C. –Due to the rainy conditions over the last three days, the Shaw University softball team will now travel to Mount Olive, N.C. to take on the University of Mount Olive for a nonconference doubleheader on Monday, Apr. 15 beginning at 1 p.m.

 

The Lady Bears are 3-13 overall entering Monday's competition, following its two losses at Meredith College on Apr. 10 in its last outing.

 

Senior Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) leads Shaw offensively, hitting .439 with 18 hits, three doubles and 13 RBI while senior Tajia Bailey (Greensboro, NC) is hitting .380 on the season with 19 hits, five doubles and seven RBI.

 

Freshman Joan Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) is 3-13 in the circle with an 11.00 ERA and 20 strikeouts.

 

UMO, a member of the Conference Carolina's is 27-17 on the season, including an 18-6 mark at home and a four game win-streak. Charlene Thompson leads the Trojans with a .377 batting average, 52 hits and 12 RBI while Heather Childress has a batting clip of .356, 37 hits and 20 RBI.

 

Mallory Ratcliff is 10-6 in the circle with a 2.20 ERA and 83 strikeouts on the year.

 

Monday's doubleheader will be the first meeting between Shaw and Mount Olive since 2015. UMO won the last meeting, 24-0 and 16-2 back on Feb. 3.
