RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University softball will prepare for a busy week, starting with the Lady Bears hosting Meredith College on Wednesday (Apr. 10) at 2:30 p.m. for a nonconference doubleheader at Worthdale Park.
The Lady Bears are scheduled to travel to Fayetteville State for Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action on Saturday, Apr. 13 at 2 p.m. in Fayetteville, N.C. Sunday (Apr. 14), the Lady Bears will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on the Rams (24-6, 12-2 CIAA) for a division doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Shaw looks to snap a four game skid against Meredith, the Lady Bears are coming off 13-3, 13-2 losses to Claflin Sunday on senior day. Shaw poised a scare to the Lady Panthers in the opening contest but Claflin's bats came alive down the stretch for the sweep.
The Lady Bears (3-11, 3-9 CIAA) owns a batting average of .279 that features a .344 on base percentage and .377 slugging. Senior Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) is the team's leader offensively with a batting clip of .472 while senior Tajia Bailey (Greensboro, NC) follows with a team-high (4) doubles and a batting average of .386.
Defensively, freshman Joan Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) is the lone pitcher for Shaw; she posts an ERA of 11.21 with 19 strikeouts in 73.2 innings pitched this season for a 3-9 record. Rogers has the team's highest fielding percentage (.873) with 30 putouts and 25 assisted.
Meredith, a NCAA DIII institution from the USA South Conference is 9-21 overall while Fayetteville State is 3-23 overall and 3-9 in the CIAA.
