RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University softball will host two-straight home doubleheaders beginning with a nonconference tilt against the University of Mount Olive (Wednesday, Apr. 3), following Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday (Apr. 4) at Wortdale Park (1001 Cooper Road, Raleigh, NC 27610). First pitch for both contests is slated for 1 p.m.

The Lady Bears have momentum heading into Wednesday's contest after earning its first sweep of the season against conference foe Livingstone Saturday (Mar. 20), 16-3 and 9-0.
Freshman Joan Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) picked up two wins in the circle, striking out seven batters and allowing seven hits in 10 innings combined. Senior Taija Bailey (Greensboro, NC) led the offensive attack, accounting for a 4-of-6 from the plate, three runs, three RBI's and two doubles.
Collectively, Shaw averages .272 at the plate, including .333 on base percentage and a .395 mark in its slugging percentage. The Lady Bears have tallied 52 runs, four home runs on 62 hits so far on the season.
UMO, a member of the Conference Carolinas Conference is coming off two losses to Southern Wesleyan in last outing. The Trojans post a hitting percentage of .289 entering Wednesday's doubleheader. Charlene Thompson leads the team in hitting with a .361. She tops the team in hits (43) and runs (34).
On the mound, Haley Brogen has nine victories on the year and has struck out a team-high 100 batters. Defensively, the Trojans has a fielding percentage of .968 while its opponents average .962.
UMO sits 22-16 overall and 7-11 on the road this season.
As for JCSU, the Golden Bulls own a two-game win-streak after defeating Saint Augustine's, 12-4 and 14-2 on Saturday (Mar. 30). Evelyn Arguelles leads the hitting for the Golden Bulls with a batting clip of .559 leading her team in hits (19), RBI's (15), doubles (6) and triples (2). Tatyana Mars leads the pitching unit for JCSU with a 3-4 mark on the year, she has struck out 20 batters in 32.2 innings of work.
JCSU sits 6-10 overall and 6-5 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference.
