RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University softball team will host two home doubleheaders this weekend as the Lady Bears will face Livingstone College on Saturday (Mar. 30) for its home opener at 1 p.m., followed by a doubleheader also at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Mar. 31) against Johnson C. Smith University. Both games will be played at Worthdale Park (1001 Cooper Road, Raleigh, NC 27610).

Shaw has not played since Mar. 17 when the Lady Bears competed at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference Round-Up where SU went 1-6 overall. The Lady Bears enter the weekend with a 1-7 overall record and 1-5 mark in league action. Shaw's lone win came against Lincoln (Pa.) by the score of 6-2 back on Mar. 17.
Offensively, senior Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) averages .450 at the plate with nine hits, eight RBI's, five runs, two doubles, a triple and one home run. Defensively, Rogers has the best fielding percentage at .905 with 20 putouts and 18 assisted.
Livingstone (0-10, 0-6 CIAA) is still in search of its first win of 2019, the Blue Bears host Morris Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader. Prior to today's contests, the Lady Blue Bears fell to Bluefield State, 18-0 and 15-4 last weekend.
Freshman Jamie Tolkkinen is batting .320 with five runs and a slugging percentage of .440. As a team, the Lady Blue Bears are sporting a .165 ERA giving up 113 earned runs on 142 hits in 47 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts. On the mound, freshman Brown has appeared in six games striking out six batters.
Shaw and Livingstone will meet for the first time this season; the Lady Bears swept the Lady Blue Bears 21-0 and 22-1 on Apr. 6, 2018.
Johnson C. Smith (4-10, 4-5 CIAA) enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak; the Golden Bulls suffered a 9-0 and 8-0 setback to Winston-Salem State on Mar. 23. JCSU has not won a game on the road this season as they head to Raleigh with a 0-6 mark.
Evelyn Arguelles paces the Golden Bulls with a batting clip of .500 that includes seven runs and a slugging percentage of .808. JCSU accounts for an 8.07 ERA giving up 63 earned runs on 95 hits in 54 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts. Sanae Nakoa has a 1-3 record on the mound in 23 innings pitching, striking out 13 batters.
Last season, Johnson C. Smith and Shaw split in Charlotte, N.C. as the Lady Bears won 5-4 during the first game but dropped a 13-4 in the nightcap.
