RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's softball team will have an opportunity to see the field for the first time since Feb. 27 when the Lady Bears travel to Elizabeth City, N.C. to compete in the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up hosted by Elizabeth City State. The round-up will run on Friday, Mar. 15 through Sunday, Mar. 17 at the South Park Athletic Complex located on 110 Capital Trace, Elizabeth City, N.C. 27909.
The Lady Bears will begin the round up with a 3:45 p.m. game against the Lady Vikings of ECSU (0-9) on Field 2. On Saturday (Mar. 16), Shaw will play in three games, starting with a tilt against Bowie State (0-5) at 10 a.m. on Field 1. At 12:15 p.m., the Lady Bears will face the Trojans of Virginia State (1-9) on Field 5, following a 4:45 p.m. contest with Virginia Union (0-8) on Field 4 to wrap up day two.
Shaw will battle with Lincoln (Pa.) (1-9) for Sunday's opening game at 12:15 p.m. on Field 2, and then take on the defending champions of Chowan (1-15) at 4:45 p.m. on Field 1 to conclude round-up.
The Lady Bears are 0-2 entering this weekend's competition. Shaw suffered two setbacks at Benedict that featured just five runs and two home runs. Senior's Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) and Taija Bailey (Greensboro, NC) are the team's best offensive hitter averaging .500 and .400 at the plate. The two have combined for four of the Lady Bears seven hits and two home runs on the young season.
