RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University softball team will travel to Johnson C. Smith University on Wednesday, Apr. 11, when the Lady Bears play the Golden Bulls in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division doubleheader. Game one is set for 3 p.m. at Biddleville Park.
Shaw (8-12, 6-2 CIAA) has won their last four games, including a rocking 21-0, 22-1 doubleheader victory over Livingstone last Friday. Senior Brittany Kline (Choctaw Beach, FL) ranks eighth in the CIAA with a batting average of .409 while sophomore Amanda Ortiz (Tucson, AZ) is second on the team with batting clip of .358.
As a team, the Lady Bears rank third in the CIAA for their batting average of .330, having scored 124 runs (5th CIAA) and 106 RBI (5th CIAA). Senior Frances Perry (Burlington, NJ) is among the top-10 in the circle, with an ERA of 5.62 (9th CIAA) with a record of 4-1 (8th CIAA). The Lady Bears are 2-0 in the Southern Division.
JCSU is 5-12 overall and 3-4 against CIAA opponents. The Golden Bulls are 0-1 in the division after falling 10-2, and 5-3 to Saint Augustine's on Friday. Shenice Harrison leads JCSU with a batting average of .381 while Tia Greene hits .378 from the plate. As a team, the Golden Bulls hit .311 as their opponents have outscored them 186-129.
Wednesday's meeting will be the first tilt between both programs this year. Shaw suffered two losses to JCSU last season by the scores of 9-0 and 10-0 in Raleigh, N.C.
