LAURINBURG, NC – The Shaw University softball team dropped two games to Saint Andrews College on Tuesday afternoon with a score of 5-1 in game one and 13-4 in game two.
SAU got on the scoreboard first in the opener of the non-conference doubleheader with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless frame from both teams in the second inning, the Lady Knights scored once in the bottom of the third off a miscue from Shaw.
The Lady Bears scored their lone run in the top of the fourth inning led by a triple from Charkriyn Jackson (Goochland, VA), following a single from Zahrea Lewis (Savannah, GA) that scored Jackson. SAU would score one run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to take the 5-1 victory in game one.
Shaw scored one run to take an early 1-0 lead over SAU in game two but the Lady Knights scored two runs in the bottom to quickly take the lead back. The Lady Bears had opportunities to score but failed to capitalize as the SAU was able to score 10 runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning.
Despite the four runs for Shaw, SAU tallied one more run in the bottom to secure the 13-4 win in five innings of play.
Shaw will return to action on April 9 when they travel to Livingstone College to square off with the Lady Blue Bears for a CIAA Southern Division doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
