RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University softball team fell 9-0 in six innings to Concord on Saturday at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in day two of the softball challenge. The Lady Bears drop to 2-10 on the season while the Mountain Lions improve to 6-2 on the year.
Concord started things off in the top of the first with a single from Alayna Furr. She would advance to third on passed balls before touching home plate on an single by Abby Beatty.
The Lady Bears tried to even the score in the bottom of the first but that would be cut short after the Mountain Lions got three quick outs.
CU added one run in the second, followed by two in the fourth and a pair in the sixth inning to close out the contest as Shaw failed to score after accounting for one hit for the game compared the Mountain Lions 14.
Chynna Gross (Orange Park, FL) took the loss for the Lady Bears after pitching four innings. She allowed nine hits, seven runs and three walks.
Shaw will have a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday, when they face Concord one last time to conclude the softball challenge at 12 p.m.
