RALEIGH, NC.  – The Shaw University women's softball team suffered a late hitting drought in the setback to Benedict College 13-4 on Friday night at Walnut Creek Softball Complex on day one of the 2016 Shaw University Softball Challenge.


Shaw held a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning before the Lady Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 9-4 lead.


The Lady Bears went scoreless for the remainder of the contest as Benedict plated four more runs, including a homerun from Starkeira Daniel that would bring home three of her teammates to take the win.


Brittany Kline (Choctaw Beach, FL) finished the night 2-for-3 with one run scored, while Chakiryn Jackson (Goochland, VA) added 1-for-3 performance with one RBI and one run scored.


Frances Perry (Hamilton, NJ) took the loss as she allowed 13 runs and three walks in the contest. The Lady Tigers' Kendall James earned the win as she allowed four hits and four runs, including one run in the first and three runs in the fourth.


The Lady Bears will return to action on Saturday, March 5 against Concord. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on Field 4.
