RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University softball team hosts Bluefield College in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at Worthdale Park. Game one will start at 2 p.m., with game two expected to start at 4 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams of the 2016 season.
The Lady Bears (2-6) are coming off a 4-0 and 12-1 setback to Davis & Elkins on Feb. 20. Marisa Richardson (Jacksonville, FL) is hitting a team high .400. She has secured seven RBI's, 10 hits and five doubles in eight games played on the young season.
Frances Perry (Hamilton, NJ) leads the pitching staff, in 19 innings of work, striking out six with 7.60 earned run average and nine walks. Chyna Gross (Orange Park, FL) in 22 innings has struck out 13 with an 8.15 earned run average and 19 walks.
Bluefield (0-4) is coming off a split with Hiwassee College, falling short 3-4 in the first but producing a 14-0 win in game two.
Morgan Sawyers leads the Lady Rams with a .400 average, sluggish percentage (.400) and on-base percentage (.500). Baily Garin is second in average (.333). Brienna Sparks lead the pitching staff with two strikeouts, 2.21 earned run average, and four walks on the season.

Following Tuesday's action, Shaw will host the 2016 Softball Challenge at Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Friday, March 4 through Sunday, March 6.
