RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University softball team dropped two games against Davis & Elkins College, 4-0 and 12-1 on Saturday afternoon at Worthdale Park for a non-conference doubleheader.
Shaw totaled more hits today then their previous setback against Meredith Thursday but it would not be enough to get pass the Senators as they totaled 13 hits and 16 runs on the day.
The Senators opened the day's first contest with two runs on a walk while bases were loaded. The next play, Katelyn Norton sacrificed out to right field to advance runner Danielle Norton home to give DE the early 2-0 lead.
DE scored one more run in the second and sixth inning, while the Lady Bears failed to score to fall in game one.
Chyna Gross (Orange Park, FL) took the loss at the mound as she allowed four hits, four runs, four errors and walked six in seven innings pitched.
In game two, the Senators charted four runs on a single by Alyssa Cairns allowing runner Kaylan Whoolery to advance home, followed by an error to score Taylor Norton. The Lady Bears would not respond in the first inning.
In the top of the second, DE scored three runs and five more in the fourth before Shaw finally got on the scoreboard on a fielder's choice. Unfortunately that would not be enough to keep the Lady Bears in the contest as they were outscored 12-1 in five innings of play.
Shaw returns to the field on Tuesday, March 1st when they host Bluefield College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
