SHAW EARNS HIGHEST TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD FOR MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference announced its 2019-20 Dr. Freddie Vaughns Highest Team Academic Award recipients Wednesday afternoon with the Shaw University's Bears team earning the highest cumulative grade point average for the men's cross-country team.

 

Led by head coach Frantz-Kwame Smith in his second season, the Shaw men's cross country collectively recorded a 3.33 GPA while Virginia Union women's tennis team had the highest average among women's sports and across all sports with a 3.65 and Livingstone men's golf team represented the highest among men's sport teams with a 3.60.

 

The CIAA Highest Team G.P.A. Award was renamed prior to the 2018-19 academic year in honor of former Bowie State University Faculty Athletic Representative, Dr. Freddie Vaughns, who passed away in 2015
