SALEM, VA – The Shaw University men's cross country team had two Bears earn All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) honors at the 2019 CIAA Cross Country Championships Thursday afternoon at Green Hill Park. As a team, the Bears finished fifth overall with a total of 130 points, three spots up from a season ago.
Shaw was led by freshman Peter Ekayi (Rumuruti, Kenya) who placed fourth overall with a finishing time of 26:44.5 for an All-CIAA selection while sophomore Torotich Kiplagat (Eldoret, Kenya) cross the finish line in 29:29.2 for 15th overall, also earning an All-CIAA honor – his second-consecutive accolade.
Three other Bears made up the top-40th individually as junior Fabien Niyirora (Johnston, IA) came in 34th place (31:54.6), freshman Andrew Camillo-Tayaca (London, England) placed 37th (32:20.1) and senior Diego Nino (Bogota, Columbia) tabbed 40th (32:46.7).
Virginia Union won the 2019 Men's XC title with a total of 52 points led by Micah Kipruto who won the men's 8k race (25:20.3) while Virginia State (59 points) and Saint Augustine's (90 points) placed second and third, respectively.
