RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shaw University men's and women's cross-country teams have announced their 2019 slate under the leadership of under the second year of head coach Frantz-Kwame Smith.
The Bears will look to build upon its eighth overall finish at the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships with key returner Torotich Kiplagat (Eldoret, Kenya) who finished fourth overall earning All-CIAA honors.
The Lady Bears who finished ninth overall at the 2018 CIAA championships returns All-CIAA selection and rising senior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) who finished 12th overall, earning her second consecutive All-CIAA selection.
Additionally, Luisa Cury (Araraquara, Brazil) will also look to push the Lady Bears ahead this season coming off a strong showing in the championship, missing the All-CIAA selections by just three seconds.
Shaw will open the 2019 campaign on Aug. 30 at the Elon XC Opener in Elon, N.C. The following week, SU will travel to Ettrick, Va., for the VSU Opener.
On Sept. 20, the Bears and Lady Bears will compete in its only meet in the triangle area for the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, N.C.
The City of Charlotte then awaits Shaw on Sept. 27 for the Queens City Invite, followed by back-to-back trips to Salisbury, N.C. on Oct. 5 for the HBCU Challenge and the Blue Bear Invitational on Oct. 11.
The 2019 CIAA XC Championship will be held on Oct. 24 in Salem, Va.
