MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY PLACE EIGHTH AT CIAA CHAMPIONSHIPS,  TWO BEARS NAMED ALL-CIAA

ROANOKE, Va. The Shaw University men's cross country team placed eighth overall at the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference Championships at Green Hill Park Thursday afternoon.

 

The Bears tallied 194 points led by sophomore Mike Lagat (Eldoret, Kenya) who finished third individually with a time of 27:12.6 while teammate and freshman Torotich Kiplagat (Eldoret, Kenya) was 33 seconds behind Lagat for fourth overall with a finishing time of 27:45.4 – both earning All-CIAA recognition at the event. The award was Lagat's second consecutive All-CIAA honor.

 

Another notable runner for the Bears was sophomore Fabien Niyirora (Johnston, IA) who finished 40th (31:56.2) in the men's 8 kilometer race out of 73 total runners.

 

Virginia State won its second consecutive title with 56 points while Saint Augustine's (86) and Virginia Union (103) tabbed second and third place finishes, respectively.
