RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's cross-country will look to make a run at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Cross-Country Championships Thursday, Oct. 25 in Roanoke, Va. The women's 5k race will begin at 12 p.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 1:30 p.m. at Green Hill Park.
The event is free and open the public.
Shaw will join 13 men's and women's teams at Salem with the championship ceremony immediately after the completion of the men's race. Recognition of the top women's and men's individual winners, top 3 women's and men's team finishes, and the women's and men's Coach of the Year will take place at that time.
The Bears will look to improve off last year's ninth place finish led by sophomore Mike Lagat (Eldoret, Kenya) who won the individual title with a time of 27:37; in addition to being named to the All-CIAA Team. As for the women, the Lady Bears placed 10th overall in last year's conference championship that featured junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) leading the way with a 14th place finish and All-CIAA status.
Both the men's and women's cross country programs at Shaw University is led by interim head coach Frantz Smith.
