RALEIGH, N.C. – Both the Shaw University men's and women's cross country teams will be appear in the Trojan XC Invitational on Friday, Sept. 21 hosted by Virginia State University.
The women's 5k race is slated to start at 4 p.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 4:45 p.m.
The Lady Bears are coming off a third place finish at the VSU Opener Sept. 7 led by junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) who finished fifth with a time of 25:03. VSU would place first with a total of 38 points while Chowan placed second (50 points).
Friday's event will be the season opener for the Bears cross-country club for 2018. Shaw has a strong core coming back from a season including All-CIAA runner in sophomore Mike Lagat (Kenya) who won the individual race at the 2017 CIAA XC Championships. The Bears will look to improve upon last season's ninth place finish at the championship.
Interim head coach Frantz Smith who enters his first season at the helm leads both men's and women's cross-country.
