RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's cross country teams, under the direction of head coach Nadia Alexander-Pompey, have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2018 season.


Last season, the Bears finished ninth at the 2017 CIAA Cross Country Championships. With some of the team returning, in particular to rising sophomore and All-CIAA runner Mike Lagat (Kenya) and the addition of talented runners of Lagat's caliber for 2018, Coach Alexander-Pompey will have a solid foundation. On the women's, the Lady Bears placed 10th in the conference championships, the Lady Bears have a bulk of the team returning including rising junior and All-CIAA Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica).


Shaw will open competition at the Chic-Fil-A Cross Country Invitational in Salisbury, NC on Sept. 1. SU will take part in the VSU Opener on Sept. 7 hosted by Virginia State University. Followed by the Adidas XC Challenge on Sept. 14 in Cary, NC, Shaw will travel to Greensboro, NC to participate in the Greensboro Invitational (Sept. 29).


On Oct. 6, both programs are scheduled to appear in the HBCU Challenge in Raleigh, NC and then the Blue Bear Invitational hosted by Livingstone College (Oct. 12).


The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) Championships will be on Oct. 26 in Salem, Va. The NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships will follow on Nov. 17 in Slippery Rock, Pa., while the NCAA National Championships will be held in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Dec. 1.
