RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's tennis team collected its first win of the young season with a 7-0 shutout over Pfeiffer University Saturday afternoon at Worthdale Park. The victory was during the Bears home opener, improving its overall record to 1-2 on the year while the Falcons fall to 1-2 on the season.
The Bears started the day with a clean sweep in doubles, as sophomore Martin Munoz (Bogota, Colombia) and senior Diego Leal (Bucaramanga, Columbia) led the way with a 6-1 win, while Diego Nino (Bogota, Colombia) and Guillermo Frano (Sevilla, Spain) paired up to sweep their match 6-2 as well, and sophomore Ilya Skobelev (Lelyshenko, Rostov-on-Don) and junior Destiny Udofe (Brampton, ON) took their match, 6-3.
All six singles went the Bears way to earn their first win of the season.
Shaw will return to action on Monday, Feb. 17 at Catawba for a 1 p.m. start in Salisbury, N.C.
