SHAW TENNIS OPENS SEASON AT HBCU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's tennis programs officially open its 2019-20 season Thursday (Sept. 12) at the 19th Annual HBCU National Championships at the Sugar Creek Golf & Tennis Club. This year, there will be two locations; the secondary site will be at the Woodward Academy.

 

The event will take place over the next four days, beginning today (Sept. 12) through Sunday, Sept. 15.

 

The Bears will join institutions such as Alabama A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Bluefield State College, Florida A&M University, Jackson State University, Morehouse College, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T University and Xavier University of Louisiana on the men's side.

 

The Lady Bears will accompany the likes of Alabama A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Bluefield State College, Clark Atlanta University, Florida A&M University, Grambling State University, Jackson State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T University, Southern University and Xavier University of Louisiana.

 

The HBCU National Tennis Championship has over 15 collegiate institutions (over 30 men's and women's tennis programs) with close to 250 players competing in slated events, for both singles and doubles. The HBCU National Tennis Championship provides schools with the opportunity to compete in a tournament during the fall to allow players to meet, compete, and be crowned National Champions at the end of the tournament, both individually and as teams. 

 

Both the Shaw University men's and women's tennis programs are led by head coach Sunday Enitan, in his 22nd season.
