RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's tennis team will close out the 2019 season with a pair of road matches this weekend, beginning with a match at Bluefield State College Friday (Apr. 19) at 1 p.m. in Bluefield, W.V. The Bears season finale will be on Saturday (Apr. 20) at Bluefield College at 10 a.m. in Bluefield, Va.
Shaw (5-9) hopes to snap a four-match losing skid, the Bears are coming off a 4-3 setback to Chowan in its last outing. As for the Blues of Bluefield State, BSC welcome Shaw with a 12-9 record and 5-2 mark at home this year. The Blues earned a 7-0 win over New York Institute of Technology last weekend.
Last year, Shaw and Bluefield State met in West Virginia on Apr. 3 where the Bears suffered a 5-0 defeat by the Blues.
The Bluefield Rams stand 6-9 overall while posting a 3-3 record at home. BC's last contest occurred on Apr. 11 with the Rams winning 6-3 over Lees-Mcrae. Shaw and Bluefield also met last season with the Rams defeating Shaw, 5-2.
Bluefield State is a NCAA Division II program out of the United States College Athletic Association (USCAA) Conference while Bluefield is an associate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
