RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's tennis will face Chowan University on Tuesday, Apr. 16 in Murfreesboro, N.C. for a tennis doubleheader. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
The Lady Bears (11-8) will look to snap a two match losing skid against a Chowan women's squad that is 3-15 on the year. Shaw is coming off a 6-1 setback at the University of Charleston Sunday while the Hawks welcome Shaw on two-match win-streak, including a 6-0 win over King (Monday).
The old rivals have a bit of history as the two squads use to battle for Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship titles until the Hawks became a member of the Conference Carolinas in 2017-18.
Tuesday's match will be the first match since 2017, in which the Lady Bears and Hawks last meeting occurred during the 2017 CIAA Championship. Shaw won 5-3 in Bowie, Md.
For the men's competition, the Bears (5-8) are also looking to snap a losing skid. Shaw has lost its last three matches including a 6-0 decision at UCWV (Sunday). The Hawks (6-12) is coming off a 4-3 edge by King Monday afternoon.
Tuesday's match will presume as the first meeting between Shaw and Chowan since 2016. The Bears fell to the Hawks, 5-1 in the CIAA Championship match in Raleigh, N.C.
