CHARLESTON, W.V. – The Shaw University men's tennis team dropped a pair matches on the road over the weekend, falling 4-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan (Apr. 13) and 6-0 to the University of Charleston (Apr. 14).
The two setbacks dips the Bears to 5-8 on the season.
Senior Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and junior Diego Nino (Bogota, Columbia) were victors at the No. 2 doubles (6-2) but the Bears trailed 1-0 to WVW (11-5) after doubles competition. The Bobcats picked up three straight wins at the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles to claim the 4-0 win over Shaw.
On Sunday, Shaw fell in all three doubles for the 1-0 disadvantage. Ac took his opponent to three sets before falling 6-3, 4-6 and 6-10 as the Golden Eagles of UC (9-7) ended up claiming all five singles for the sweep over the Bears.
Shaw will look to snap its losing funk with another road test at old rival Chowan on Tuesday, Apr. 16. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
