RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's tennis lost to NCAA DI UC Riverside Tuesday morning, falling 4-1 to the Highlanders at Lions Park.
The loss snapped a three-match win-streak for Shaw who now stands 3-5 overall while UC Riverside improves to 13-9 on the season.
Despite the setback, the Bears were led by a dynamic doubles duo of junior Diego Leal (Bucaramanga, Columbia) and Ngonizashe Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) at No. 1 doubles who captured a 6-4 victory. At the No. 2 doubles, a tandem of senior Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and junior Diego Nino (Bogota, Columbia) secured a 6-4 win to give Shaw a one-point lead early on.
Unfortunately, no Bear was able to win a singles match as the Highlanders claimed three-straight at No. 1, 3 and 5 singles before two singles were left unfinished in favor of UC Riverside.
The Bears will have a quick turnaround, Shaw will host Johnson C. Smith Wednesday (Mar. 27) also at Lions Park. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
