BEARS TENNIS FALLS TO N.C. WESLEYAN, 9-0, IN SEASON OPENER

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The visiting Shaw University men's  tennis team opened the 2019 season with a 9-0 setback to DIII North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon at the Slick Tennis Center.

 

The win improves the Battling Bishops to 3-0 on the year while the Bears dip to 0-1 on the young season.

 

N.C. Wesleyan swept all three doubles match and each of the six singles to record the win. The No. 2 singles was the only close set as senior Ngonidzashe Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) fell 7-5 and 6-3.

 

Shaw will return to action on Feb. 12 against Catawba for its home opener at Lions Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Lions Park is located at 516 Dennis Ave, Raleigh, NC 27604.
