SHAW MEN’S & WOMEN’S TENNIS TO PARTICIPATE IN 18th ANNUAL HBCU NATIONAL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

SHAW MEN’S & WOMEN’S TENNIS TO PARTICIPATE IN 18th ANNUAL HBCU NATIONAL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University men's and women's tennis teams will participate in the 18th Annual HBCU National Tennis Championships on Thursday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Sept. 23.

 

The tournament will take place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place finishers in each flight and first place consolation winners. For every win by a team top eight players a point will be awarded to determine the overall team champion. 

 

The HBCU National Tennis Championship has over 15 collegiate institutions (over 30 men's and women's tennis programs) with close to 250 players competing in slated events, for both singles and doubles. The HBCU National Tennis Championship provides schools with the opportunity to compete in a tournament during the Fall to allow players to meet, compete, and be crowned National Champions at the end of the tournament, both individually and as teams. 

 

The Lady Bears women's tennis team is coming off a 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA) Championship with an overall record of 21-3 while the Bears wrapped up their 2018 campaign 3-10 overall. Head coach Sunday Enitan leads both programs in his 21st season.
