MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT BLUEFIELD, 5-2

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Shaw University men's tennis team fell at Bluefield, 5-2 at the BC Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The loss dipped the Bears to 2-6 overall while the Rams improve to 10-2 on the year.

 

The Bears took a 2-1 lead after doubles but the Rams fought back in singles play to win four-straight to prevail over Shaw.

 

Oscar Del Granado (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and Ngonidzashe Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) won 8-3 at the No. 1 doubles while Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and Destiny Udofe (Brampton, ON) battled for a 9-8, 7-4 win at the No. 2 doubles.

 

Udofe put up a good fight at the No. 3 singles, falling 6-3, 4-6 and 6-0 but Ac, Enrico Baldon (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Junior Babalola-Davies (London) all suffered losses at No. 4, 5 and 6 positions.

 

Shaw will look to bounce back with a road match at Division III, William Peace on Friday, April 6 at 2 p.m.
