RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's head soccer coach Randy McClure announced the hiring of Mario Andrade as an assistant coach to his staff on Thursday.

"We are delighted to add a coach with Mario's playing and coaching experience to our staff," added McClure. "His energy and enthusiasm for player development will serve as a tremendous asset as we look to continue to build the soccer program here at Shaw University."

Andrade comes to Shaw after serving as an assistant at Wake Tech Community College. Prior to Wake Tech, Andrade was a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, N.C. Wesleyan where he was a part of the staff that took the Battling Bishops to the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Angola, Andrade moved to the United States in 2001. As a former student-athlete, Andrade attended the Community College of Rhode Island where he was later recruited by N.C. Wesleyan. During his time at N.C. Wesleyan, Andrade was named All-Conference Second Team, earned the Sportsmanship Award and helped lead the Bishops through the NCAA DIII East Division Conference Tournament.

He has also played at the semi-pro level in Iceland and the United States. Andrade holds coaching licenses from the United States Soccer Federation and the United Soccer Coaches organization. He has coached youth players as well, including time with the Tar River Youth Soccer Association and the North Carolina Football Club.

Andrade obtained a Sports Management degree with a concentration in Coaching from N.C. Wesleyan in 2017.
