RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team's offense sputtered to produce quality scoring chances as they fell to Newberry College 2-0 Wednesday night in Newberry, S.C. at the Smith Street Complex.
Newberry got on the board first in the 31st minute with a goal from Ibrahim Nadir. The Wolves offense pressed and produced 11 shots during the opening stanza compared to just two from the Bears. Shaw's first shot on goal would finally come in the 66th minute from freshman forward Brandon Linares (Kernersville, NC).
The Wolves pulled ahead 2-0 with a goal from Troy Paul in the 79th minute producing the final score. Newberry outshot Shaw 20-6 for the contest with the just two of those being on goal for the Bears. Newberry also dominated in corner kick attempts finishing the match with 10-0 spread over Shaw.
With the loss, Shaw falls to 3-10-2 overall. Newberry improves to 9-6 on the season. Shaw returns to the field Friday, Nov. 1 as they host Salem (W.V.) for Senior Day. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. from the MAC.
