RALEIGH, N.C. –The Shaw University men's soccer team returns to the pitch to battle Newberry College Wednesday, Oct. 29. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. from the Smith Road Complex.
Shaw looks to avenge a heartbreaking 4-3 OT loss to Salem (W.V.) on Saturday, Oct. 22. In Morgantown, W.V. its last time in action. The loss drops their record to 3-9-2 on the season. The Bears have dropped three of their last four matches with the three losses coming on the road.
The Bears found themselves climbing out of a hole from the opening whistle as the Tigers of Salem scored two goals in the first 40 minutes. The Bears were outshot 6-2 during the opening half. Shaw was able to outscore the Tigers in the second half with a 3-1 scoring frame but in OT, Salem scored the game winner in the 95th minute.
Newberry enters Wednesday's match after dropping a 3-1 loss to Lincoln Memorial on Oct. 26. Two early goals in the first seven minutes of action left the contest tied at 1-1. LMU added a goal just before the half to take a 2-1 lead over the Wolves at the Break. The Railsplitters iced the contest with a goal in the 78th for the 3-1 final.
Wednesday's matchup will be the first ever between the Bears and the Wolves in men's soccer.
