Morgantown, W.V. – The Shaw University men's soccer team fell to Salem University 4-3 Saturday afternoon in Morgantown, WV. in a match moved to Mylan Park in Morgantown due to wet field conditions.


Shaw found itself climbing out of a hole from the opening whistle as the Tigers scored on goals in the 19th and 30th minutes. The Bears were outshot 6-2 during the opening half.


The Bears flipped the switch in the 2nd half taking the zero off the board in the 63rd minute as freshman Gianluca Evers (Brunswick, Germany) trimmed the Shaw deficit to 2-1. Evers wasted no time scoring his second goal of the contest four minutes later for the equalizer at 2-2. Salem (W.V.) answered with a goal in the 82nd minute breaking the 2-2 tie. Evers finished off his hat trick tying the match again in the 89th minute sending the match to overtime at 3-3.


Salem needed just over five minutes into the overtime period to find the back of the net for the game winner in the 95th minute.


Shaw outshot the Tigers in the 2nd half 8-5 bringing the total shots to 13-10 in favor of Salem (W.V.)


The Bears drop to 3-8-2 on the season while Salem (W.V.)  improved to 6-8-1 overall. Shaw returns to action Wednesday, Oct.30 as they travel to Newberry University for a 7:30 kickoff.
