RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team will face No. 20 Francis Marion University Monday, Oct.21 in Florence, S.C. at Hartzler Field. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
Shaw enters the match coming off a dominating 6-0 win in a rain drenched match against Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the WRAL Soccer Complex. The win pushed their record to 3-7-2 on the season.
The Bears produced season highs on offense in goals scored and shots. Sophomore Marc Almazor (Brooklyn, NY) scored the first goal for the Bears for the third consecutive match. Freshman Gianluca Evers (Brunswick, Germany) followed with back to back goals to give Shaw a 3-0 lead early in the second half. Shaw added three more goals in the 62nd, 66th and 88th minutes to close out the 6-0 victory.
Francis Marion returns to action bringing a three match winning streak into the contest. In their most recent match, the Patriots topped North Georgia 1-0 for their six shutout on the season. Francis Marion enters Monday's match with an 8-2-1 record. The Patriots are members of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).
Monday's match versus Francis Marion will be the first in program history against the Patriots.
