RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team will face Southern Wesleyan University Wednesday, Oct.16 at the MAC Sports and Entertainment Complex. (8924 Midway West Rd., Raleigh, North Carolina 27617) Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
Shaw enters the match coming off a 2-1 loss to Piedmont International University on Monday, Oct. 14. in Advance, N.C. The defeat drops their record to 2-7-2 on the season. Monday's loss ended a streak of three matches without a loss for the Bears.
The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute with a goal from sophomore Marc Almazor (Brooklyn, NY). PIU tied the contest just before the half scoring a late goal in the 44th minute. The Bruins scored again late in the contest getting the game winner in the 86th minute. Shaw forced on last shot inside of a minute left but were denied by the PIU keeper to secure the 2-1 victory over the Bears.
Southern Wesleyan returns to action attempting to end a seven match losing streak. In their most recent match, the Warriors fell to Barton 6-1. Southern Wesleyan saw Barton blow open a close 2-1 match after the half with four second half goals. The Warriors compete in Conference Carolinas.
Wednesday's contest versus Southern Wesleyan will be the first in program history against the Warriors.
